IPOB seeks collective action against trafficking teenagers for prostitution
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has condemned the trafficking for sexual exploitation of teenage Igbo girls, calling for collective action against the trend.
According to the separatist group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, “The recent viral videos of some teenage girls from the Eastern Region and Plateau State of Nigeria trafficked for prostitution in Ghana, is a disturbing development.”
Powerful expressed concern that, “These young girls were mostly underaged who were trafficked and locked up in a rented house in Ghana to prostitute for the soulless wicked traffickers. We believe that the trafficking of innocent and ignorant teenage girls from Nigeria to Ghana, to other African countries, Europe and American countries for prostitution is an international cartel that needs the collaboration of Ghana Security, Nigerian Security and other international agencies to tackle.”
He called on the Nigerian and Ghanaian authorities to arrest and prosecute the human traffickers, reiterating that “IPOB is against any form of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Those trafficking these Igbo girls and those using them as sex slaves locally and internationally are enemies of Ndigbo and must be treated as such.”
The IPOB media and Publicity Secretary urged parents to become more responsible and instill good values in their children to avoid being trafficked or becoming human traffickers and commended the efforts by some of the Igbo leaders who worked with the Ghana Police to rescue some of the trafficked girls in Ghana.
He advised that the rescued girls should be properly counseled and reintegrated with their families, while the arrested kingpin should face international law.
Powerful, revealed that IPOB leadership has given order to its coordinators both home and abroad to be on the lookout for anywhere Igbo teenagers were being held hostage as sex slaves and report same, even as he urged every Igbo to be part of the struggle to liberate the young girls from human traffickers.
He directed IPOB Volunteers and ESN Operatives to destroy any hotel within its territory that harbors teenagers.
