4 die in Bayelsa auto crash
Four persons were on Monday evening confirmed dead as a Toyota Sienna driving along the newly constructed Yenagoa/Oporoma Road had a head-on collision with a tricycle.
Eyewitness account revealed that the Toyota Sienna was driving in the direction of Oporoma while the tricycle was returning to Yenagoa after seven o’clock in the evening when the accident occurred.
The victims included the driver of the tricycle and passengers while none of the occupants of the Sienna sustained any injuries.
It was learnt that heavy rainfall and poor visibility could have contributed to the accident, at a scene of several previous accidents.
According to him, it took some time before residents responded to the emergency due to the rain and growing darkness.
It would be recalled that Bayelsa State had banned operations of tricycles beyond 7.00pm, but it is usual for some tricyclists to operate beyond the ban, especially outside the state capital, Yenagoa.
When contacted on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, said he was not aware of the incident.
