Stay-At-Home: One arrested, arms recovered as 50 IPOB members run riot

One suspected miscreant was arrested along Oba Flyover by the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command while three of his gang fled at Oba Flyover in Idemili South Local Government Area.

This is coming as the entire Anambra State was shut down following the Stay-At-Home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Similarly, secondary school students billed to sit for Mathematics examination of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had to disguise themselves without uniforms to sit for the slated examination.

Students whose examination centres are far from their homes had to sleep over at the venue on Wednesday in order not to be stranded by the Stay-At-Home order in the state.

All major markets in Anambra State were shut as economic activities were frustrated by the compliance to the IPOB order yesterday.

At the Upper Iweka Flyover, over 50 members of IPOB were seen taking a road walk round the area in Onitsha commercial city chanting pro-Biafran songs and demanding for the release of their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Meanwhile, the state Police Command has increased security presence in eight major cities in the state and also made available phone numbers from the situation room in the event of any act of breakdown of law and order.

The command also in a release signed by the Public Relations Officer, SP Tochikwu Ikenga,  described the call for the sit at home order as misleading, adding that the order is tantamount to causing security breach in the area.

“The Anambra State Police Command has become cognizant of the activities of criminal elements disseminating threatening voice-overs and violent videos in an attempt to enforce illegal sit-at-home directives and instill fear among the residents of Anambra.

“It is imperative to inform the public that actionable intelligence indicates that these individuals, in their bid to enforce the unlawful sit-at-home order, fabricate threatening voice-over recordings and circulate outdated videos of violent incidents, some of which did not occur within the state or even the country.

“The Command is fully aware of these secessionist activities and urges the law-abiding citizens of Anambra to disregard such propaganda. Rest assured, the Police, along with other security agencies, have mobilised law enforcement resources to ensure the safety and security of every citizen in the state.”
