The Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs has summoned the Chairmen of the five councils in Edo Central Senatorial District over rising cases of insecurity, particularly kidnapping in the area.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Frank Uyi Omonsigho, representing Oredo East Constituency, queried the Chairmen over the rising incidents of kidnapping under their watch, calling for concerted efforts to curtail the trend.

Other members on the committee include Hon. Sunday Aghedo of Ovia South West Constituency, Hon. Osamwoyi Kaycee, Uhunwonde Constituency, Hon. Eugene Inegbeboh Igueben Constituency, and Hon. Maria Edeko, Esan North East two Constituency and the Deputy Speaker.

They all called on the council chairmen to immediately embark on raiding and combing of the areas around their domains to rid them of criminals.

They, however, tasked the council bosses on collaborative efforts in fighting the trend.

On their part, Chairman Esan West, Hon. Collins Aigbogun and his counterpart from Esan South East, Hon Louis Imandegbelo, in their remarks, highlighted various challenges faced in the fight against insecurity.

According to them, there is the challenge of adequate funding, manpower, and lack of credible information, as informants now hide among the people.

Other challenges according to them are the over- familiarity between vigilantes, security agents in the areas and the people.

The council chairmen noted that if these challenges are surmounted, the council areas and their indigenes would heave a sigh of relief over the worrisome situation.

In attendance were the Chairmen of Esan North East, Hon Kelly Inedegbor, Esan Central, Hon Paul Iyoha,  Igueben, Hon Clement Asuelimhen and Esan South East, Hon. Louis Imhandegbelo.
