Abia: Police begin investigation into alleged murder of Nigerian employee by Chinese boss

…Reps alleges suspect being shielded by security agents

Abia State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation into the alleged murder of Miss Vivian Ogbonna, by her Chinese boss, Mr GZ ZHEN, at Inner Galaxy Company, located in Umuahala and Umuorie Communities of Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state has begun.

Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chinaka, told New Telegraph when contacted that the state police command got a report of the alleged murder and has begun an investigation into the case.

“We got a report alleging that Mr. GZ ZHEN through his actions led to the death of one of his staff by the name, Vivian Ocheze Munachi. An investigation is ongoing,” she said.

New Telegraph learnt that Miss Ogbonna, a female crane operator who hails from the company’s host community, Umuahala was allegedly pushed down from the crane by her Chinese boss and eventually hit her head on a hard object and died.

The news of the incident caused tension in the company as youths of the community barricaded the gate insisting that they won’t leave until justice was done over the death of the crane operator.

Eyewitnesses told New Telegraph that despite the news of the murder of the Nigerian getting to all security authorities in Ukwa, no arrest was made as the protesting youths were later forcefully dispersed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army guarding the steel company.

Some workers at Inner Galaxy, a Steel factory responsible for manufacturing of all kinds of irons told the New Telegraph under condition of anonymity that Mr GZ ZHEN never related well with the late Miss Ogbonna over suspected alleged rejection of love advances by the deceased.

“See what’s happening in our own country. See how our own soldiers are showing criminal-minded foreigners that our lives do not matter. Tell me the country where a foreigner will go and kill a citizen and their soldiers will at least not arrest that foreigner and hand him over to the police? But right here in Nigeria, we see ourselves as nothing,” an angry youth leader, Ikechukwu said.

Sir Chris Nkwonta, the Member representing Ukwa West and Ukwa East Federal Constituency, condemned the death of Miss Ogbonna in his statement, lamenting that the manner she was killed amounts to total disregard for the sanctity of life.

He further described the situation as an act of hatred and wickedness exhibited by the Chinese expatriate at the Steel Company against their host communities.

“Miss Ocheze Ogbonna’s death orchestrated by a Chinese expatriate is a gross abuse of the rules of engagement and a total disregard for the sanctity of human life and an affront on their host community, Umuahala-Obuzor and the peace-loving people of Ukwa West Local Government Area.”

“I call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Chief of Army Staff, the Abia State Commissioner of Police and the Minister of State, Labour, to ensure that the culprit, who I understand is being shielded by the security agents, is brought to book and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
