Two killed, 3 injured in another gas explosion in Lagos
Two persons have been confirmed dead while three others are injured in another gas explosion that rocked the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State on Tuesday evening.
This is coming barely one week after about 22 persons sustained different fire burns in similar gas explosion that occurred in the Ajegunle area of the state.
The latest explosion occurred at a gas retail shop at the Abule Folly area of Ibeju-Lekki.
It was learnt that the explosion claimed the lives of two persons, including a male customer.
Our correspondent gathered that some shops located close to the scene of incident were completely razed by fire.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate, adding that the latest explosion is coming about a week after a similar incident was recorded in the Ajegunle area of the state.
He said sadly, two persons died, three others sustained injuries while four shops were razed.
Giving vivid account of what happened he said: “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Elemoro Division, received information about an explosion that occurred in the area.
He said upon receipt of the information, the DPO quickly mobilised officers to the scene.
“On the spot assessment revealed that the explosion caused the death of two persons. One of the deceased was identified as the shop owner’s younger sister and a male customer, while three persons were injured. Four shops were completely razed down.
“The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the remains of the dead victims have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation.
“The value of the properties destroyed is still unknown. Fire fighters and other sister agencies were on ground to offer help,” he added.
