Drama as pro-Fubara lawmaker emerges Rivers Assembly Speaker
The political crisis rocking Rivers State took another dimension on Wednesday evening when a new speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly emerged in Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, the member representing Bonny Constituency.
Oko-Jumbo is a pro Governor Siminalayi Fubara lawmaker, while Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who leads the pro Nyesom Wike lawmaker, is said to have dismissed the news of the emergence of the new speaker.
He becomes the second speaker in Fubara’s camp months after the former speaker, Ehie Edison resigned to assume office as Chief of Staff to Fubara.
The news of the change in the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which in recent times has been having a running battle with Fubara over legislation has been accepted in some circles as a right move.
There are others who have dismissed the emergence of the new leadership as a “distraction” that should be disregarded by the people of the state.
The Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter and South-South zone, Amb. Ihunwo Chijioke has congratulated the new Speaker, urging him to give his best in providing leadership.
Ihunwo said that Jumbo will further improve relationship between the Legislature and the Executive, and provide more opportunities for the growth of Rivers youths.
