Lagos: Police arrest suspected fake doctor for operating illegal clinic
A 38-year-old suspected fake medical doctor, has been arrested for allegedly operating a medical centre in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The suspect, Shakirudeen Tayo was arrested after a man he did appendicitis surgery on had complications after the operation.
It was learnt that the suspect who is a secondary school dropout, procured Obafemi Awolowo University medicine and surgery certificate to establish the hospital.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, in charge of Zone 2, Onikan, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi who paraded the suspect before journalists yesterday said the suspect was arrested after receiving a petition against him from a member of the public.
Durosinmi said operatives of the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit arrested him based on intelligence gathered by his office through members of Elepe community, concerning the activities of the fake managing director of Skylink Medical Centre located at Ako-Okuta Block Industry behind Uncle Bayus Schools, Elepe-Ikorodu, Lagos.
He said, a team of detectives led by the officer in-charge, Zonal Anti-Piracy Zone 2 Command, SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi swung into action; arrested the suspect, conducted a search and recovered two suspected forged certificates of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State and Nigeria Medical and Dental Council certificate from him.
The Police boss however said it also recovered immovable hospital equipment from him, while the hospital complex had been sealed pending the outcome of investigation on the matter.
During investigation the suspect confessed to electronic production of the certificates as he neither obtained any degree from the University nor certificate from the Medical council as his real qualification is just a SSCE.
He also claimed he has six staff, two of which are trained nurses, while four are amateurs, adding that he worked as Nursing Assistant at Fabo Medical Centre, Majidun area of Lagos before establishing his own hospital and he has successfully carried out three Cesarean Session and one appendicitis surgeries during his three years of unlawful practice as a medical practitioner.
