Torrential rain tears Amje Estaport Community Bridge apart

… devastates residents of Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA

Residents of Amje Estaport community in Olakunle Ojo Street, Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA,  are counting their losses  following a heavy flood caused by yesterday morning’s torrential rainfall which  severely damaged many properties and divided the area into two parts.

The downpour also cut a bridge in the area into two.

Chairman of the Amje Estaport CDA, Pastor Samson Akinde, confirmed the devastation in an interview with journalists.  He attributed it to floodwaters overflowing from various streets in Mosholasi and Abucon drainages.

He explained that the flood waters converged and emptied into Awotula Close, and subsequently channeled into the bridge with significant force.

Akinde said, “The flood damaged the bridge’s pillars, weakening its foundation, and washed away the sand supporting adjacent drainages.

“The collapsed bridge served approximately 20 communities, acting as the sole link road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Express road into Old Otta.

He stated that the collapsed bridge also impacted a portion of the recently completed tarred road by Senator Ayo Akinyelure.

He appealed to the Council Chairman in the area, Engr. David Famuyiwa, to come to their aid.

He also appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and bring succour to residents of the affected community.
