A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Badagry on Tuesday remanded a 45-year-old cleric, Mr. Sunday Adewoye, for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman.

The incident is said to have happened on April 17 at about 5:00p.m. on Joseph Dosu Way, Badagry.

Adewoye, is facing charges of unlawful sexual penetration and rape, as outlined in Sections 260 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, who presented the case, stated that Adewoye engaged in sexual intercourse with the young woman without her consent.

During the court session, Chief Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya refrained from taking Adewoye’s plea, opting to seek guidance from the state director of public prosecutions. As a result, the defendant was remanded in a custodial facility pending further advice.

The case has been adjourned until June 3 for further proceedings.
