Car snatching gang arrested in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested one Dickson Omage, a 47, of Post Office Road, Effurun Warri, for allegedly running a car snatching syndicate.
Also, two suspected members of his gang, Samson Ekwunwa, 40, and Kanebi Michael, 39, were traced to Benin City in Edo State and arrested.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Asaba yesterday said a total of 12 vehicles were recovered with a master key which the suspects were using to perpetrate their nefarious act.
He said preliminary investigation has revealed that Dickson and his gang members were notorious for stealing cars from where they are parked at owners’ risk during the day and at night.
He said, “The two suspects (Samson and Michael) specialise in removing old chassis numbers and engine numbers and replacing them with new ones before putting the vehicles for sale.
“Also, they are specialists in demobilising vehicles with car trackers. A total of 12 suspected stolen vehicles were recovered from Benin City and Warri.”
According to him, a Toyota Corolla Saloon car was snatched by them at Abuja Road, DSC Township, Oruwhorun from where it was parked.
“The said car was sighted along Eku/Warri road by Oha Junction in Okpe LGA. Sequel to the tip-off, DPO Orerokpe, CSP Paul Oboware, swiftly mobilised patrol teams alongside members of Oha community vigilances and gave the suspects a hot chase to Army checkpoint at Orerokpe Junction and double-crossed the vehicle. Consequently, one Dickson Omage “m” age 47yrs of Post Office Road Effurun Warri was arrested,” he narrated.
