TASUED on track to enjoy 24-hour electricity
The era of inconsistent power supply at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun campus, Ogun State, is drawing to a close, as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwole Banjo, announced during an interactive session with the Students’ Union leadership at a 2-day Capacity Training held at the Ilaji Resort Center in Akanran, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Prof. Banjo assured TASUED community that within a few months, they would have access to uninterrupted 24-hour power supply, highlighting the significance of a fully functional institution where students can utilise libraries and labs round the clock.
This year’s theme, “Building A Future Leader,” underscores the importance of academic institutions in equipping students with the skills to effectively address the nation’s challenges.
Commending the student leaders for maintaining peace on campus, Prof. Banjo encouraged them to promote inclusive governance and unity, while also mentioning enhancements in campus security, including the renovation of the Police Post at Abapawa and collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps to bolster security measures.
The Deputy Registrar of Human Resources, Mr. Tade Adenugba, stressed on the importance of students acquainting themselves with university protocols and channels for addressing grievances, urging them to refer to the university handbook for guidance.
Addressing security concerns, Acting Chief Security Officer, Mr. Moses Ogundeji emphasised the role of student leaders in ensuring a secure environment and cautioned against behaviors that could compromise campus safety, including association with criminal elements.
Other speakers at the event included former Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and former President of ASUU, Prof. Rotimi Ettu, who discussed “Students’ Leaders and Absolute Power,” cautioning participants against autocratic tendencies and urging them to garner the support of their constituents to leave a lasting legacy of service.
In response, the Senate President Afolabi Olusola Showemimo, speaking on behalf of the Students’ Union Leaders, commended the university management for organising the training and pledged their support for peace and a smooth academic calendar.
