NAFDAC uncovers fake cosmetics syndicate in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has revealed a major crackdown on a fake cosmetics production syndicate in Lagos State. The agency announced the successful operation on its official Twitter account yesterday.

According to the agency, at the Balogun Trade Fair Gate within the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State, its investigation and enforcement team discovered an illegal operation involving the production of counterfeit cosmetics.

The proprietor of Pasco Global Limited, Mr. Pius Effiong Eyoh, was apprehended for allegedly manufacturing, packaging, distributing, and selling a wide range of substandard and counterfeit cosmetic products.

The seized products include Skin Balance Perfect Knuckle Organic Peel Therapy and Golden Face Triple Action Concentrated Perfect Skin.

The Agency said, Eyoh’s operation involved processing and packaging these cosmetic products with deceitful labels and French inscriptions, along with a purported Cameroonian address, to deceive unsuspecting consumers.

NAFDAC’s swift intervention led to the immediate sealing of the illicit manufacturing premises, the arrest of Eyoh, and the slated destruction of his substandard products.

The agency emphasised that the purpose of the crackdown is to safeguard public health and ensure that only safe and genuine products are in Nigerian markets.

“By not indicating his contact address on the products, Eyoh likely intended to divert the attention of regulators and law enforcement in case of product failure or injury to users.

“However, the actions also give the impression that the products were probably smuggled across land borders.

“NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting Nigerian consumers from the dangers of counterfeit and substandard products remains unwavering. The agency continues to monitor and enforce regulations to ensure the safety and integrity of products in Nigerian markets,” the agency said.
