Alia, Achado condemn herdsmen killing of over 28 people of Benue
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia and the member representing Gwer East/Gwer West constituency, in the House of Representatives, Asema Achado, yesterday condemned the killing of over 28 people in different communities in Gwer-West Local Government Area of the state by suspected armed herdsmen during which many others were also kidnapped.
Governor Alia wondered why such grossly offensive attacks continue on communities of the state despite the relentless efforts of his administration to arrest the situation.
He called on the people particularly those at the frontline of the attacks to cooperate with the government and security agencies to bring perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
The governor, in a statement by his Principal Special Assistant on Media and Content Creation, Mr. Isaac Uzaan, extended his deep condolences to those whose relatives were killed in the attacks, calling on security agencies to expedite their search and ensure safe release of those kidnapped.
He assured Benue people that his government is working closely with security chiefs and traditional rulers to end the growing insecurity the state.
In his reaction, Achado, who also condemned the senseless killings, sympathised with the grieving communities on the attack.
Achado, in a statement by his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mendah Manasseh, “implored the state government to urgently intervene by enforcing the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, thereby ensuring that the perpetrators of these barbaric acts face swift and decisive justice”
He called on the people of Gwer West to remain steadfast and united in their quest to bring an end to the spate of killings.
The federal lawmaker urged his people to also collaborate with law enforcement agencies to apprehend those responsible for the heinous crimes against humanity, assuring of his unwavering support and steadfast commitment to championing their cause and advocating for lasting peace and security in the constituency.
