Alleged Murder, Terrorism: Court grants Governor Adeleke’s aide N50m bail

A Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday granted an , Oyeyemi Olalekan, popularly called Ajagungbade Emir, who is standing trial for alleged killings and terrorism, a N50million bail.

The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, approved the application for bail on the ground that the prosecution’s proof of evidence was not sufficient to deny the suspect bail.

New Telegraph reports that Ajagungbade Emir, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Osun State has been remanded in Ile-Ife Custodial facility since he was first arraigned on February 1, 2024.

He is facing a 10-count of terrorism and murder.

He was alleged to have killed some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

His counsel, Edmund Z Biriomoni, Esq, had during the last sitting on March 19, moved the application for the bail of the defendant.

He sought an order of the court admitting the defendant applicant to bail pending the hearing and determination of the amended charge.

While giving his ruling on the bail application, Justice Ayoola, said the prosecutor has failed to provide sufficient evidence to deny the applicant the bail.

He said the prosecution was still making efforts to bring the evidence to support the charges leveled against Emir, seven months after he was arrested.

He thereafter granted Emir bail in the sum of N50 million with, two sureties in like sum.

The judge said one of the sureties must be a government-recognised traditional ruler in Osun State, the other a level 17 civil servant or member of the National Assembly.
